Adding Stabilizer is a technique that can expand the life your memory animal and ensure a beautiful shape.  It also allows me to make animals from fabrics that would be typically rejected. 
The technique attaches the shirt fabric to the stabilizer giving it  security . Some fabrics can be very fragile having been repeatedly washed and worn. Stabilizer gives the stitches a better grip of the fabric so it won't tear apart once the animal is stuffed. Hugging and holding a memorial animal will push the stuffing against the seams . Worn fabric will not be able to endure the force. Memorial animals are not toys and are meant to be on display. We want our animals to be with us always and  Stabilizer will add to the lifespan of your animal.

Stabilizer helps retain the shape of the animal as well.  Fabrics that are stretchy tend change the shape of the animal.  Stabilizer will hold it to the shape of the pattern  giving it a more proportionate look. It will also make the animal firmer and not as soft.
